I think the part of this scripture that is most revealing and gives a great look into the heart of God is in vs. 24-25. It reaaly shows how God being in the form of Jesus really had a true human experience. All of us at some point in time have felt or been alone, even at times when we are completely surrounded by people that we know and care about us. Yet here Jesus says that he would not trust Himself to these people. In that crowd were his disciples, his mother, his brothers, and a slew of people that had come to believe on him, yet, he knew thier hearts, and it revealed that he could not trust them..... With this perspective it becomes even more clear why Jesus relied so heavily on prayer and connecting with with God during times of great difficulty. This passage reminds me that Jesus has truly known what it is like to be human and as He sits at the right hand of the Father, he can TRULY sympathize with the hurts and pains and emotions that come along with it. This really helps me to be more open, personable, expressive to God.
When I read this, I get the overwhelming sense of how alone in the crowd Jesus must have felt. The scenario makes me think of how God is so passionate about love & rightiousness. Yet, even after so many days and nights of close times with His disciples/brothers, they still didn't understand his passion for the Father. It was only after he was glorified that they remembered the words of the Psalmist and the scriptural nature of Jesus' actions. In contrast, He knew exactly what was in the people's hearts. In some translations of Galatians 5:22, the fruit of the Spirit labled "patience" is translated "longsuffering". In these verses I can really see Jesus/God's longsuffering with man, and more personally, me.
